Grant Thornton announces the appointment of new partners

LUXEMBOURG, January 31, 2025 - Grant Thornton has announced the appointment of 6 new partners across its audit, tax, advisory and financial services business lines in Luxembourg. These nominations bring the number of partners to 27 in Luxembourg as the firm continues its strategy for continuous growth.

 

Edouard Bubenicek – Partner, Corporate & Legal

Edouard has been appointed as Legal Partner, specialising in corporate matters and notably in mergers & acquisitions. He is also leading the Recovery & Reorganisation business line in Grant Thornton Luxembourg, such a role consisting in providing assistance with respect to any corporate structuring and liquidation works of group companies, including funds, holdings and investment vehicles. This role entails notably taking mandates of liquidator for such entities.

Edouard has a breadth of experience in advising a wide range of companies, private equity and real estate sponsors and management teams in the structuring and financing of international joint ventures, co-investments, reorganisations, buyouts, national and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, including the related security pack and incentive schemes.

Before joining Grant Thornton in 2022, Edouard practiced as Avocat à la Cour for more than 10 years. He holds a Master in International Business Law from University of Nancy and a Diploma in International Transactions from ICN Business School.

 

Vaida Gončiauskaitė – Partner and Authorised Director, Financial Services

Vaida has been appointed as a Partner in Financial Services and has been authorised by the CSSF as a director of Grant Thornton Financial Services S.A., a Professional of the Financial Sector (PSF).

With over 14 years of distinguished experience in the financial sector, she is recognised for guiding fund managers in ensuring seamless compliance with the rigorous regulations governing their Luxembourg-domiciled funds.

She holds a BSc in Economics, is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA), and is a CAIA Charterholder.

Having joined Grant Thornton in 2022, Vaida brings invaluable and multifaceted expertise as a former CSSF-approved manager of regulated funds, with extensive experience in administering both regulated and unregulated private equity vehicles across a diverse array of asset classes.

 

Martin Dewez – Partner, Internal Audit

Martin has been appointed as Internal Audit Partner, leading the Business Risk Services (BRS) practice. He is specialised in Internal audit services, Governance, Risk Management and Regulatory Services, Special Attestation Services, Compliance with regulatory requirements and External Quality Assessment Review.

With more than 10 years of experience in internal audit services, Martin has been serving a varied portfolio of clients (under both outsourcing and co-sourcing operating models), covering most types of regulated financial institutions in Luxembourg, including credit institutions, investment firms, investment fund managers, specialised and support PFS, payment institution as well as reinsurance captives.

Martin is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) from IIA and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from ISACA as well as an ISO27001 provisional auditor. He holds a Master in Banking & Asset Management from University of Liège (HEC) and has joined Grant Thornton in 2014.

 

Hakim Mezieche – Partner, IT Audit

Hakim has been appointed as IT Audit Partner in the Internal Audit division. With over 15 years of experience, he holds an extensive experience in reviewing IT controls within the context of external and internal audits.

Hakim is specialised in cybersecurity, outsourcing management, cloud computing, business continuity, disaster recovery audits, SWIFT security program audits, IT operations management audits, and IT project reviews. He also has an large experience in IT regulatory matters in Luxembourg, working with a variety of businesses, including banks, PFS, and payment institutions.

Hakim is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA by ISACA) and holds a Master’s degree in Business Studies. Hakim worked for various leading Canadian banks. He joined Grant Thornton in 2018, bringing with him in-depth experience in IT risk management.

 

Alessandro Niglio – Partner, Valuations Services

Alessandro has been appointed as Valuation Partner. He has over 10 years of experience, having joined Grant Thornton in 2019 after a previous work experience at State Street Bank as Valuation Analyst.

His expertise encompasses a comprehensive range of assets, including private equity, venture capital, and fixed income instruments. Alessandro's portfolio of completed projects is marked by high-profile valuations of shares, businesses, and distressed debts, all tailored for multifaceted objectives such as restructuring strategies and financial remediation.

Alessandro is Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds a Master’s degree in Finance from University of Naples Federico II. He is a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and a Member of Luxembourg Valuation Professionals Association (LVPA). 

 

Alain Verbeken – Partner, Tax - Financial Services

Alain has been appointed as Tax - Financial Services Partner in the Tax & Accounting division. With over 30 years of experience in tax services, he is specialised in tax advisory and operational tax services for the financial services industries.

Alain has significant experience in tax structuring advice to banks, insurers, as well as the fund & asset management, private equity and real estate industries. His expertise includes significant operational tax experience with implementation, review and advisory projects in Luxembourg and abroad.

Having joined Grant Thornton in 2023, Alain holds a Master’s degree in Law and a Special degree in Tax Law from the Free University of Brussels.
